George Thompson is one of 35 distinguished artists in the world to be formally designated a master pastelist. He has studied with several prominent American portraitists over a 25-year period.
Mr. Thompson specializes in landscapes as well as lifestyle and family portraiture. By combining a distinctive style in the American impressionist tradition with a brilliant use of color, his work is suitable for display in any setting.
He has been an Instructor of portrait and landscape painting in pastels at the Pastel Society of America's school at the National Arts Club in New York City for ten years. He is Educational Chairman and Course Coordinator for the Torrell/Phillips School and also Staff Landscape Teacher at the Torell/Phillips School for Pastels at the National Arts Club in New York City, and Muttontown School of Art, East Norwick, Long Island.
George Thompson has won many awards with
his artwork over the past decade, most recently the Salmagundi
Club Washington Square Award in 2000. His artwork has been on
display in various private exhibitions throughout the United States,
and has been shown in the Pastel Society of America Exhibit in
Peking, China. A collection with George Thompson's Artwork on
permanent public display can be seen at the National Museum of
Mexico, in Mexico City.
