"Everything is on the move to somewhere
else. That simple statement is my way of summing up what I consider
to be one of the most profound conceptions of the natural world.
It is my personal experience and knowledge that all of nature
is in constant flux; if I sit and watch long enough, everything
will move.
I pursue this concept, which I consider to be the spiritual in
art, in colored pencil by drawing symbolist "living"
landscapes and nature studies. I feel that when my work is successful,
the expression of this concept is one of the results.
I am particularly attracted to high desert rock formations; arcades,
buttes, spires, cliff faces, etc., which were once, long ago,
seabeds. This type of erosion and its suggestion of time fascinates
me.
As a firm believer in form following function, I feel that the
results of your art should follow your conception as to how things
are. Therefore my work tries to achieve this sense of time, movement
and detail. This is done through saturated and vibrant color (almost
hallucinatory), compositions that are flowing and often stress
diagonals, and strong texture."
